There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall betting is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
