There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime destination, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slots and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights many comforts accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
